Claudia Soares is an Invited Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal and a postdoctoral research fellow at Institute for Systems and Robotics/IST. Claudia holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from IST, and she is fascinated by optimization, distributed localization over networks, and machine learning for big data analytics, with applications in large-scale autonomous vehicle formations, indoor localization, and smart city management. Claudia envisions her research as a path to extend knowledge, but also to apply science for the greater good. Her research has been supported by EU FP6, EU FP7, and also national projects and grants.

Claudia completed her PhD with Distintion and Honour at IST Universidade de Lisboa in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2016 under the supervision of João Pedro Gomes. She was awarded a FCT Graduate Fellowship. She received MSc. and B.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering (17 in 20) from IST and a B.S. degree in Modern Literature and Languages from FCSH-UNL.
